Mr. Issam Al Refai - Chairman

Essam Al-Refai leads the administration and legal departments at National Real Estate Company (NREC), a publicly listed real estate and investment company with a presence in the Middle East and Africa. Al-Refai also holds the positions of Director of Government Relations and Director of Kuwait Free Zone in NREC. He is also the General Secretary of the Arbitration of Kuwait Free Zone.

Prior to his current appointment, Al-Refai’s distinguished career includes leadership roles in the Kuwait Ministry of Justice as the treasury head and financial controller. A trained lawyer, he also served as the Director of Administration and Legal at Masaleh Real Estate Company.

Al-Refai holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Kuwait University and a bachelor’s degree in law from Alexandria University, Egypt.

Salah Sharif, Chief Administrative Officer of GFH, is a key player in the strategic as well as day-to-day management of the Group’s core corporate support functions. In addition, he is responsible for ensuring that the highest standards of operational excellence are achieved for the Group’s Special Purpose Vehicles and Project companies. He also serves as a Board member in several project/operating companies that fall under the GFH Financial Group brand.

An industry veteran with over 30 years of international exposure and experience in both conventional and Islamic financial institutions, Salah is conversant with industry best practices in all aspects of commercial, wholesale banking, and in the industrial and infrastructure advisory sector. Prior to his appointment at GFH, Salah was the CEO of Cemena Holding Company (CHC), an industrial subsidiary of the Group which was one of the largest cement holding companies in the MENA region. Previous to this he held a number of senior roles in leading, global financial institutions, including Operations and Facilities Manager, Middle East & North Africa at American Express in Bahrain and at Standard Chartered Bank in Bahrain where he held various managerial and executive positions including Head of Operations.

Mr. Al Khan is a well-reputed businessman with extensive experience across various sectors including banking, investments, industry, trading and contracting across the GCC. He holds a Bachelors degree in International Accounting and Finance from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, England. His experience comes from a career background which includes senior positions in HSBC Middle East, Capivest (Khaleej Finance & Investment) and finally as Deputy CEO of Inovest (formerly known as Tameer). Mr. Al Khan specializes in financial engineering of Real Estate and Private Equity products. He has been actively involved in the establishment and management of some unique ventures including:

Dr. Nasr is one of the well-known figures on the legal advisory arena in Egypt and the GCC region, with over 22 years of extensive experience in the Egyptian and GCC laws, commercial and civil law, company law, intellectual property law and investment laws, as well as drafting all types of commercial, contracting and franchise contracts. He is the manager and owner of the Law & Legal Advisory Services Centre in Egypt. Dr. Naser is the Legal Advisor to Al Shaya Group of Companies, Kuwait and Egypt, Madi International Group, Dar Al Shifa Hospital, Kuwait, Silver Star Company, Kuwait and Lebanon, Al Shaya Marine, Kuwait, GFH Financial Group, Bahrain, and several other companies in the GCC region.

Dr. Nasr holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Cairo University, Egypt. He also holds a Master’s degree in Business Law from Cambridge University, UK, a PhD. degree in International Commercial Law from Cambridge University, UK.  He is a registered lawyer with the Cassation Court & the Supreme Administrative Court in Egypt, a member of the Arab Lawyers Association, a member of the GCC Commercial Arbitration Centre, a member of the Supreme Arab Human Rights Activists Council and a member of the Egyptian Judges’ Club as an international arbitration consultant.

Talal Al-Mahroos is currently the Executive Director of Infrastructure Investments at GFH Financial Group (“GFH”), an award-winning Islamic Investment Bank, headquartered in the Kingdom of Bahrain. With a wealth of experience spanning over 16 years in Investments, banking & finance,  Al-Mahroos is handling key offshore and onshore projects forming one of the main business verticals of the bank. This includes the sourcing, development, structuring, planning, sponsorship and execution of complex real estate asset investments for GFH. 

Prior to joining GFH, Al-Mahroos was the AGM – Head of Investment Banking at Khaleeji Commercial Bank (“KHCB”), a role that has been key to KHCB’s investment banking strategy and to the expansion of its commercial banking activities. As an executive, Al-Mahroos was also involved in setting-up the overall bank strategy and management of various business lines within the bank. Al-Mahroos was responsible for originating and coordinating the sourcing, development, structuring, planning, sponsorship and execution of complex real estate, private equity, corporate finance and fixed income generating Shari’ah-compliant investments and products for KHCB.  Additionally, he was responsible for assessing and structuring new funds and investment opportunities including Greenfield projects, joint ventures, private equity deals. Al-Mahroos also lead the post-acquisition investment management and oversees KHCB’s real estate fund’s development process. Prior to KHCB, Al-Mahroos worked in Arab Investment Company and Ahli United Bank.

Al-Mahroos holds various representations in the boards on onshore and offshore entities.

Al-Mahroos holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Banking and Finance from University of Bahrain, and holds various executive management credentials from top tier universities in the U.S and U.K.

Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Buhajeeh has an overall banking experience of 15 years with some of the prominent banks in Bahrain such as Arcapita and Kuwait Finance House focusing on Islamic Banking, Corporate Banking and Project finance.

At GBCORP Mr. Buhajeeh is Chief Administrative Officer since Jun 2016 and looking after the back office functions of the bank and also sits on the board of some of the investee companies of the bank.
